Southside Family Charter School Literacy Plan
2024-25 School Year
To support every child reading at or above grade level every year, beginning in kindergarten, and to support
multilingual learners and students receiving special education services in achieving their individualized reading
goals in order to meet grade level proficiency, a school district or charter school must adopt a local literacy plan
that describes how they are working to meet that goal. A district must update and submit the plan to the
commissioner by June 15 each year Minn. Stat.120B.12, subd. 4a (2023). With the purpose of assisting districts
and charter schools, the Department of Education has developed this Local Literacy Plan template. The Local
Literacy Plan must be approved by the Superintendent and posted to the district or charter school’s website
annually.

District or Charter School Literacy Goal
● Southside will attend to the educational debt owed to BIPOC students by centering the growth of those
students. Southside will implement evidence-based, targeted reading instruction that is equitable and
culturally relevant. Intervention strategies will be tailored to meet the needs of all students, particularly
those who have historically been marginalized.
● All BIPOC students will make average or above average growth (30th growth percentile or higher) in
reading and math, as measured by “growth from start score” on Fastbridge earlyReading or aReading
and earlyMath or aMath scores. Data will be disaggregated to identify and address disparities.
■ earlyMath: 38% of students made average or above average growth (N:8)
■ earlyReading: 56% of students made average or above average growth (N: 9)
■ aMath: 60% of BIPOC students made average or above average growth (N: 45)
■ aReading: 60% of BIPOC students made average or above average growth (N: 48)
