African American Literature Focus
Posted on 03/12/2012
Southside is looking forward to another partnership with the Givens Foundation for African American Literature during the 2012-2013 school year. With a grant through the Minnesota State Arts Board, we will be able to work with resident artists from the Givens Foundation who will focus on reading, writing, oral tradition, and spoken word.
The Givens Foundation for African American Literature has been active for more than 20 years. It is the only organization in the Twin Cities exclusively dedicated to advancing and celebrating black literature and writers. Its literary arts residencies and programs for writers illuminate the cultural resources and creative imagination found within African American literature to enrich cultural understanding for audiences of all ages. Through our work with the Givens Foundation in past years, we know these residencies will be fantastic and enriching opportunities for our students.
